What do you like most about your work?

I enjoy being a doctor and a dermatologist at three different levels. First is the patient contact. Meeting many different personalities and patients of different backgrounds and nationality and getting to know them are an eye-opening and enjoyable process. Second, it’s all about practising medicine and dermatology. Diagnosing a skin problem and being able to help patients take control over the disease, to heal or manage it is, indeed, gratifying. There is an old English saying that goes, “the eyes are the window to the soul”. I would say the “skin is a window to your health”. The condition of the hair, skin and nails do speak volumes about your physical as well as emotional health. And third is about being able to make a difference. Whether in the patients’ life and those around them, or at a wider level, sharing and educating about good skin care and skin health to the public is a significant part of my daily work.

What do your patients like about you?

I sincerely hope it’s because I am a good doctor and I can help them care for their dermatological problems effectively! And thank goodness for feedback forms, I’m able to answer questions such as these! Patients really want a caring doctor, who will take the time to listen and show empathy and respect for their problems. And then to proceed to diagnose correctly, prescribe appropriate treatment, and if possible, cure the problem. Taking the time to listen and hear what they are saying and understanding that there are sometimes underlying issues that need to be addressed too are key. These are important aspects in my practise.
