Hands-on Healthcare Training

Doctor with stethoscopeSingapore is facing a rapidly ageing population, and with three new public general hospitals in the pipeline, there is growing demand for pharmaceutical healthcare professionals. Recognising the need for a pipeline of industry-ready graduates, Republic Polytechnic (RP) and Khoo Teck Puat Hospital (KTPH) have jointly launched a teaching dispensary.

The facility is the first of its kind set up by a polytechnic in collaboration with a local public healthcare institution. Students from the Diploma in Pharmaceutical Sciences (DPHM) will receive practical hands-on training in an environment that simulates a realistic hospital pharmacy.

The RP-KTPH Teaching Dispensary was officially launched at RP’s Open House 2015 in January by Guest-of-Honour Associate Professor Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim, Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry of Health and Ministry of Transport. Mr Heng Swee Keat, Minister for Education also attended RP’s Open House with visiting secondary school principals.
