Mane Attraction

Who’s up for an ultimate tress makeover?

Our hair isn’t called our crowning glory for nothing – it shapes, brightens, frames and spiffs up our face. The good thing about it is, just like our wardrobe, we have a complete control over our hair. And a little tweak, highlight, or a snip here and there gives our face a new lift. So let’s welcome the upcoming holiday season with a fabulous hairstyle revamp, shall we?

Colour me happy
You have previously dyed your hair dark, and bleaching is a definite no-no for you? Don’t worry, X’Pect does one of the most amazing two-tone colours to give your dark hair the big oomph it needs.

To do a two-tone colour, the stylist will divide your hair into two parts and apply the top half with a more intense colour using the foiling method, and the bottom half with a different, more subdued colour as the base. As you sip your hot lemon tea, there will be two colourists who will fuss over you, tugging and foiling and brushing your hair. After the chemicals have been washed off your hair and your new do styled to perfection, you will agree that all the fuss was worth it. The two-tone colour provides subtle and shiny tint to your hair, but it changes and gives out interesting glow with each play of lights and shade. The tone and highlights also change depending on the way you would style your hair. If you brush it up, the base colour is more visible; if you wear it down the top, intense colour is more visible.

X’pect has been around since 1998, with four outlets in key parts of the country: Sunset Way, Liang Court, Orchard International Building, and Square 2. With a staff force of 30 stylists who regularly participate in international hair styling competitions, X’pect has redefined the Singaporean hair industry. To date, it has won over 60 hairstyling awards.

Curl me up
Komachi The Hair Cult offers the latest perm technique from Japan, the Air Perm, which uses low temperature to minimise hair damage while creating shiny, soft, and healthy curls. What’s more, the treatment helps repair hair structure. It is suitable for all hair types and curls also last longer.

After perming lotion is added to hair to soften it, the Air Perm machine is turned on and rods are heated to only 55 degrees Celsius. Other forms of heat perms usually go up to between 90 and 120 degrees Celsius. What sets it apart from other heat perms is that the treatment involves “passing air and moisture through plastic tubes to the perm rods and hair” to make sure curls are locked with a Neutralizer lotion.

Komachi the Hair Cult is a dynamic Japanese hair salon that offers a complete range of hair salon services, catering to both men and women. Its team of professional hair designers is dedicated to bring quality, excellence and creativity to customers.

Treat me right
You think taming your curly tresses is the way to go, but you’re not so keen on re-bonding it? You may try Trimming’s Brazilian Blowout. It’s a keratin-smoothing treatment specially designed for frizzy and curly hair. “It is one of our best sellers,” says George, senior stylist at Trimmings. “We do quite a lot of them. It is one of the favorites of our clients.” The treatment lasts three months minimum, depending on how well you take care of your hair.

To do the Brazilian Blowout the Trimmings way, the stylist will wash you hair with their special shampoo, dry it, and put and leave the cream on for 20-30 minutes. Then, without rinsing, he will dry and iron your hair. “Brazilian is like re-bonding, you’re not supposed to wash your hair for the next three days after the treatment to let the keratin settle,” explains George. After the keratin sets in, your hair will still stay straight and silky even after you wash it. Voila, you have smooth, tame hair without subjecting it to harsh re-bonding chemicals!

Treatment: Brazilian Blowout

Price: $250 up

Duration: 120-240 minutes

Trimmings at Loewen Gardens is a full service hair salon popular with locals and expatriates. It has recently opened its new branch in Robertson Walk.
