Slow down ageing with chiropractic care
Forget about wrinkles and laugh lines for a moment, and let’s talk about how ageing takes a toll on our backs and hips as well. We may have creams and needles to combat ageing on the outside, but if we don’t take care of ourselves on the inside, ageing gracefully is not likely to happen, literally.
A balanced nutrition and lifestyle changes can boost your anti-ageing regimen, but we also need to correct spinal misalignments that hinder our body’s natural abilities to heal and function well. You know that back aches that we’ve been brushing off but constantly complaining about? It’s about time we addressed those.
One area of healing that’s gaining recognition in anti-ageing these days is chiropractic care. Its holistic approach to healing makes chiropractic a favourite among older patients. Ezyhealth & Beauty spoke to Dr Brian Manalastas, who created a new concept in chiropractic called Kiropractic, a fusion of chiropractic with nutrition and natural exercises, to understand how this form of healing can help slow down ageing the holistic way.
EHB: What is chiropractic and what role does it play in the anti-ageing revolution?
Dr Manalastas: Chiropractic is a healing profession that uses specific spinal adjustments to build health in every individual. By getting adjusted, people maintain and enhance the healing capabilities of the body by removing interference caused by spinal misalignments.
Chiropractic is not a cure or remedy for ageing. Instead, regular chiropractic care allows the nervous system to function in its most optimal way.
EHB: There was a study that chiropractic care can reduce oxidative stress in the body. How does this help in the fight against ageing.
Dr Manalastas: By helping to reduce oxidative stress, chiropractic care is helping the cells to regenerate and repair tissue. It does not prevent the ageing process but can slow it down and allow individuals to age gracefully.
EHB: Are there special chiropractic manipulations that target age-related problems? Please enlighten us.
Dr Manalastas: There are no special adjustments geared toward age-related problems. However, one of the main focuses of spinal adjustments is to restore healthy range of motion. By preserving spinal mechanics, this can allow adults and elderly to become more physically active, achieve higher levels of fitness, have better strength retention, and therefore get better health outcomes whether that refers to cardiovascular disease, diabetes, metabolic syndrome, cancer or ageing.
EHB: How does chiropractic care differ from spa treatments when it comes to overall wellness?
Dr Manalastas: Spa treatment is centered on de-stressing and relaxation of your body. However, it does not focus on building health. Chiropractic care is geared towards building health by strengthening the function of your nervous system. When we strengthen the nervous system, this allows your brain to optimally communicate with every organ, tissue, and cell in your body. When that happens, individuals can then start to heal, and healing the body is the most important step in overall wellness.
EHB: Please talk about the benefits of chiropractic for the elderly.
Dr Manalastas: Your spine is your lifeline. There are massive benefits with chiropractic for the elderly, kids and adults. It is so vitally important to the overall function and health of your body. Subluxation or misalignment in the body creates interference to your nervous system, leading to a state of disease or disharmony. Chiropractic is the only profession that focuses on specific adjustments with the approach to correct subluxations, restoring function, movement, input that restores brain body communication and therefore restores life.
