Terrific Threadlift

Facelift without the surgery

Threadlift is a minimally invasive procedure which addresses the main concerns in an ageing face. As we age, the soft tissues of the face progressively lose the elasticity and volume of youth. How many times have we looked in the mirror and lamented over sagging cheeks, descending to form heavier jowls, and grooves deepening into etched lines on the sides of our nose and mouth?iStock_000043822628_Large

For many years, both doctors and potential patients have sought a technique of facial tissue suspension without having to resort to a full open facelift. The Threadlift technique has the advantage of being a minimally invasive procedure, whereby 100% bio-absorbable threads are strategically placed under the skin. We can achieve two combined significant benefits:

1. An instant lifting and tightening effect. As soon as the thread is applied, your doctor gently compresses and elevates the tissue, lifting and re-contouring your face. Sagging cheeks and jowls are immediately lifted, and loose wrinkly skin is tightened, giving you a more youthful visage.

2. Continuous natural rejuvenation. The thread components act from within, and stimulate regeneration of your own collagen and hyaluronic acid over the next six to eight months. Your skin gradually regains elasticity and volume is restored to the face.

What’s the difference between a threadlift and a surgical facelift?

Surgical facelifts have many variations, which all have certain features in common: through incisions which are relatively longer, the skin is separated from underlying tissue, and the redundant excess skin is excised. The changes in facial appearance will be quite obvious and sometimes dramatic.

Threadlift, by comparison, is a minimally invasive procedure, requiring small, barely visible entry points in the skin. The skin and underlying soft tissues are elevated by threads which are anchored into the strong fascia. Rather than the tight and sometimes unnatural look produced by a surgical facelift, the change in appearance with a threadlift is significant but subtle. You will be more likely to draw comments like “How well you look!”, than be questioned about what you might have done surgically. In other words, you still look like yourself, but more youthful, because the tissues have been repositioned to where they were some years earlier.

How are threadlifts done?

Threadlift is a mere 30-minute procedure (hence it is also dubbed ‘lunchtime lift’), with hardly any recovery time. With some local anaesthesia injected to the treated area, the whole procedure is virtually painless. Your doctor inserts the thread using a fine needle. The thread is placed under the skin at a precise depth and at strategic locations to create the best lift for you. Each thread is held in place by innovative mini anchors which suspend and lift saggy tissues.

These threads safely disappear after six to eight months. During the natural resorption process, your own collagen production is enhanced, leading to anti-ageing benefits beyond 18 months.

One or more threads may be applied to each area, depending on the lift that you desire.

Threadlifts give you real, but natural looking results. Benefits include:

  • Firmer, tighter skin, with improved texture
  • Smoothened out lines and wrinkles
  • Lifted, fuller cheeks and cheekbones
  • More defined jawline, with less droopy heavy jowls
  • Browlift, with less eyelid hooding. Eyes look bigger and more refreshed.

Results can last up to 18 months. You can further enhance the results of your threadlift by combining it with other non-invasive skin tightening procedures like Thermage or Ulthera.

Are threadlifts safe?

The threads of old used to have a higher incidence of complications, and as such, threads had garnered an unfavourable reputation for asymmetry, breakage, lumpiness etc. Medical research and technological advances have produced newer, high quality threads which have been approved and safety marked, such as Silhouette Soft, Happy Lift and so on. They are naturally biocompatible and fully absorbable. Components include polylactic acid (PLA), polydioxanone (PDO) or caprolactone which have been used for many years in various pharmaceutical and medical applications such as sutures, stents and orthopaedic pins.

As with any cosmetic treatment, slight swelling or bruising may occur, which will resolve within a couple of days. Sometimes there may be slight wrinkling of the skin (which is required for optimal results), which will disappear over a few days.

Am I suitable for a threadlift?

Typically anyone between the ages of 35 and 60 years old will benefit from this lift. Good candidates are patients who are starting to see droopiness of the mid-face (cheek) soft tissues and jowls, and require a lift effect. Men and women alike can attain outstanding results.
