Our body needs eight hours of sleep to able to repair and rejuvenate after a day’s activities. I ensure I get a good night’s sleep by sleeping on schedule and trying to stick to it. I also follow these few steps: First, I take a hot shower because it refreshes our body. Second, I eat a light dinner at least three hours before bedtime. Third, I try not to think about work or stress-related situations before bedtime. Relaxation techniques such as yoga, meditation, and deep breathing are exercise that could induce the body ‘s relaxation response – a state of restfulness which is the opposite of the stress response. These also increase our ability to get a good and quality sleep. I also believe that good quality mattress and pillows help you get a comfortable sleep. When I follow these steps, I get a good and quality sleep. Akbarkhan Mohamed Ali

For starters, I plan my time well to ensure that I get at least six hours of rest before I wake the following day. Also, once I wake, I try not to go back to bed but allow my body to get used to waking. Strangely the times when I snooze for another hour or two tend to leave me feeling more restless and tired. Also prior to sleeping, I do some light activities such as reading or chatting with my spouse before hitting the sack. This helps to calm my mind down and not add more tension to my brain activity. Firstly, I make sure I have eaten my light meal at least two hours earlier, as with a full stomach sleep is harder to come and you also tend to get heartburn. I make sure I have done some brisk walking earlier to make myself feel refreshed. During the day I do not sleep in the afternoons, as this causes me to sleep late in the night and ultimately causes me to feel lethargic in the morning. I also make sure I drink lots of plain water but not later than 8pm as this will cause me to get up to urinate frequently and disrupt my sleep. I have always followed the wise saying, “Early to bed, early to rise makes a man healthy wealthy and wise.” Parminder Kaur Chawla
